Description
Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Colima, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A lovely ensemble of 7 hand-carved shells presenting slender, ribbon-like bodies in hues of orange, red, peach, purple, and cream. While 1 shell presents a straight form, the remaining 6 are gently arched to resemble a pectoral. Six shells display annular drill holes for suspension, perhaps as beads or pendants. Size (of largest): 5" L x 0.5" W (12.7 cm x 1.3 cm)
Provenance: private Fayetteville, Arkansas, USA collection; ex-Dr. David Harner collection, Springdale, Arkansas, USA, acquired between the 1950s and 1960s

Some may be fragments. Some losses, along with expected chips, nicks, and abrasions to all. Otherwise, all are very nice with light earthen deposits.
