Description
This lot includes two gold-colored tins that contain wax vestas. This variety of match is called a "vesta." It is like a small, thin wax candle. Vestas were first made in France in the 1830s then introduced and manufactured in England by a man named Newton. Vestas are shorter than American matchsticks and average about one and one-quarter inches long. They come in a gold-colored tin that shows an image of the ever brave Chicago Fire Brigade. Tins are approx 2" x 1". Both are in good, antique condition with one missing its 'lighting strip' and has more wearing than the other tin. It also comes with a little handwritten note with information about the boxes.
