Description
Large lot of estate fresh personal papers, correspondence, books, and ephemera from various New Haven, Connecticut families. Included are the Bushnells, Kublers, and Goodbodys. Thousands of items. Early to late 20th century. Much of the lot is made up of the personal papers of Dr. George Kubler (1912 - 1996), Professor of Art History at Yale University. Dr. Kubler is well known for his books "The Shape of Time" and "The Art and Architecture of Ancient America". Papers include manuscripts of books/articles, notes, letters, personal records, etc. This archive includes a manuscripts of "The Religious Architecture of New Mexico in the Colonial Period and since the American Occupation" (1941), "Architects & Builders 1521 - 1560 in Mexico" (Probably "Mexican Architecture of the Sixteenth Century" [1948]), "Mexican Urbanism" from "The Art Bulletin", and "The UNESCO Report on Reconstruction of Cuzco" (1951). Copies of various art historical and architectural journals/reviews (including Yale's Perspecta). Papers in English, Spanish, French, and German. Other papers of Dr. Kubler are currently in the Archives of Yale University. Also included are the papers and hand-written sermons of Reverend Samuel C. Bushnell (1852 - 1930), a Congregational minister in Connecticut and Massachusetts. Other items include recognitions of service in the American Civil War, ancestral portraits (photographs and prints), architectural plans by George Herbert Gray (1874 - 1945), and a restaurant sign from the segregation era. Papers of Mrs. Kate H. Goodbody and Mrs. Elizabeth Bushnell Kubler. A signed copy of Louis Erhardt's "Radiation Light and Illumination" (1977). Copies of the Yale Harkness Hoot from the 1930s. A copy of the first volume of the History of the Reign of Emperor Charles V by William Robertson, D.D. (1788), a short book published in honor of Captain Harold Ludington Hemingway (1893 - 1918), a World War I solider killed in Verduns. Various books from Yale in the early 20th century, including a song book for undergraduates and a script for the Yale pageant in 1917. Condition varies. Untouched, not broken up.
