Item Details
Description
Native American, Alaskan, Inuit, ca. 1920's CE. An exemplary totem, skillfully hand-carved from the ivory tusk of a walrus and beautifully adorned with red, yellow, and black pigments. The fascinating piece depicts the flood myth of the Pacific Northwest with a raven shown at the top as though flying to heaven, grasping children as he saves them from death. When the flood subsided, the raven then descended and found a piece of kelp, which is represented here by a frog, shown at the bottom the pole. Both illustrations of the intriguing raven feature a lengthy, pointed beak, almond-shaped eyes, and large wings incised with elaborate geometric motifs. Size: 3.25" W x 10.25" H (8.3 cm x 26 cm)

This is an ESA antique exempt piece of ivory and cannot be sold internationally or to anyone residing in the states of California, Hawaii, Illinois, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, and Washington. We guarantee that the piece is over 100 years old.
