Large grouping of positive glass photographic slides, various makers defined below in 4 groups. 1) Boxed set of approximately 100 glass photo slides from the "Victor Animatograph Co. / Davenport. Iowa U.S.A. / Patented Oct. 5. 1915" (magic lantern manufacturer). Each of the 100 glass photos with cardboard boarder marked 'Hillis "Better America" Series / Better America Lecture Service, Incorporated / 251 Fourth Avenue, New York City" - each also marked "Equality" and measures 4" x 3 1/4". Most are in very good condition. Includes an advertising glass slide marked 'National Movement For "A Better America" and subtitled "False Views of Equality as Incitements to Social Revolution." by Newell Dwight Hillis' - note that Hillis was a Congregationalist minister, writer, and philosopher from Brooklyn and served as pastor of the historic Plymouth Church of the Pilgrims in Brooklyn NY - he was also an advocate of eugenics. Some noteworthy slides include: A photo of a print titled "Benedict Arnold's Treason"; portraits of famous people including George Washington, Julius Ceasar, etc.; one titled "Equality" and features white and black children seated in circle on floor of classroom; a photo of 5 Indian men, 3 of which are midgets; photo of famous print of Thomas Edison listening to his first photogram sent to NY from England; etc. The original box is in good condition and measures 12 1/2"W x 8 1/4"D x 5"H. 2) Grouping of 43 glass photo slides in original box (fitted oak drawer), India, Ceylon & Palestine - also 2 photos from the Yale University Art Gallery including a Samuel F.B. Morse portrait and a photo of a Duncan Phyfe piano forte - most plates in very good condition - Some signed Keystone View Co. 3) Grouping of 84 glass photo slides marked "Property Of The General Board Of Promotion Of The Northen Baptist Convention / 276 Fifth Ave. New York City" - Many of children and young adults from various countries including "Orphans In France", "Boys and Girls Clubs - American", etc. - some depicting a Mission covered wagon at various USA locactions - each of these with some losses to images, most plates in this grouping with some losses. 4) Grouping of 16 glass photo slides, most humorous hand colored lithographs, including Chinese figures, people aboard ships including sailors, etc. - most in good condition; and a small box of 8 mostly lithographs photo slides from the Albemarle Aladdin Series (incomplete) - most in good condition.
