Persia, likely Khorassan, Seljuk period, ca. 1037 to 1194 CE. A cast brass vessel, likely for storing kohl - the ancient cosmetic used for lining the eyes of both men and women, presenting an ovoid body with a long tubular neck, all supported by four legs with angled feet. The vessel is simple yet elegant with subtle details - a curved band at the upper end of the neck just below the flared rim which is adorned by incised frets along its perimeter, a tiered shoulder marrying the vessel body and the tubular neck, as well as protruding knob-like 'heads' emerging from the vessel body between the upper ends of the legs.
