Wanted poster for Robert Franklin Williams (black civil rights leader.) Wanted Flyer No. 290, September 6, 1961. 15.75" x 10.25". With FBI field office addresses and phone numbers to back. ****** In August 1961, Williams left the United States for several years to avoid kidnapping charges after a white couple got lost in the black part of town in Monroe, N.C., where he served as the president of the NAACP chapter there. He fled to Cuba and then later to China. He returned in 1970 and the charges were dropped upon the start of his trial in 1975.

Punch holes to upper corners, lower margin with short tears and light fraying, creased (as folded.)
