Description
Pair of Chinese Export Porcelain Plates. Antiquities Pattern with repeating scroll borders in pale orange, dark green & gold. 4 figures in cruciate arrangement, central circular peony rosettes. C 1832. W8” See "Chinese Export Porcelain in America" by Jean McLure Mudge (Pub. Riverside Book Co. NY 1986) page 184. Current scholarship (2009) indicates that this pattern was only owned by the Minor family of Philadelphia during the Federal Period (personal communication Ched Cluthe (Major Private Collector of Chinese Porcelain), Blue Bell, PA); although the earlier Mudge book asserts that the sailing ship "Crusader" carried some plates of this pattern to California in 1832.”
Condition
Good overall condition with only minor wear to gilding at edge of dishes. No cracks, chips or restoration detected.
