Description
Title: Utagawa Kunisada Toyokuni III Woodblock Print Book 1852
Description: This is the second woodblock print book by Utagawa Toyokuni III we have for auction. This is a very cool and unique piece of ukiyo-e history! Books like this one often told folk tales or legends. The cover page and one page in the middle of the book were printed in full color, with black and white monochrome prints in between. This book is broken into 4 sections, possibly telling a story of royal life in feudal Japan. It is still in its original string binding.
This is a very unique piece of history and rarer to find than loose woodblock prints. One could even say these are the precursor to modern comic books and manga! We also have another similar woodblock print book up for auction, be sure to see that listing as well!
