Description
First edition personal memoirs of U.S.Grant in two volumes. Covered in dark green cloth with Congressional Medallion of 1863 stamped in gilt to the front covers and military stars in gilt to the spines. Written as Grant was dying of cancer in 1885, the set was published by Charles L. Webster Company (Mark Twain's firm) shortly after Grant's death. Volume I contains a fold-out regarding the surrender of Fort Donelson. Volume II contains a fold-out regarding the surrender of the Army of Northern Virgina. Break to front end sheet in Vol.1 as seen. Otherwise, spines are tight as seen. Wear and rubbing to gilt on covers. Toning and some small marks on pages.
