ARTHUR WILLIAM HEINZELMANN Signed Etching, signature to lower left reads ‘ARTHUR WM HEINZELMANN’, ‘edition 90’ to lower right, subject a portrait of a seated man looking to his right with books, globe and magnifying glass on table, measures 14 3/4 x 17 3/4 inches, wooden gilt frame, minor surface wear to frame, professionally framed and double matted in beige, not examined out of frame. A highly esteemed American etcher of the early twentieth century, Arthur William Heintzelman first studied at the Rhode Island School of Design. He then went to Europe for several years and completed his education in Holland, France, Belgium, Spain, England and Scotland. Upon returning to the United States, Heintzelman accepted the position of Head of the Fine Arts Department at the Detroit School of Design for a period of four years. Arthur Heintzelman's fame rested almost entirely upon his figure studies and his exquisite portraits.
