Northwestern Europe, England, ca. 18th to 19th century CE. A fine collection of 4 Queen Anne style silver dog-nose spoons and 1 tablespoon with a broad finial. All 5 are personalized with engraved initials and motifs. The dog-nose spoons, also known as wavy-end spoons, have a distinctive raised tapering shape on the verso of the bowl extending down from the neck, known as a "rat tail." The flat handle widens at the finial then tapers to a rounded point, which is supposed to resemble a dog's head from above. All are stamped with maker, city, and purity marks on the handles, although they are faint, a few are more legible than others. The finials on each spoon are engraved on the verso of the terminal; 3 with engraved initials, and 1 with a castle, and a ship on the broad tablespoon.
