WALTER BLACKMAN (AMERICAN, 1847-1928) OIL ON BOARD, H 11.75", W 9.5", PEASANT GIRL Signed W. Blackman in the upper right corner. With an American Art Association, New York paper label affixed verso. Winsor & Newton paper label affixed verso. Framed in gilt and wood measuring H 21.25" W 18.5"Provenance: From a Private Collection, Harbor Springs, MI, acquired from her mother, who received the painting as a gift prior to 1963 from A. Dwight Church (grandson of Austin Church, founder of Dwight and Church/Arm and Hammer). Listed in catalog The Exhitibion and Fairs of Massachusettes Charitable Mechanic Association Vol. 15-18 Jan 1884 (Dutton and Wentworth).
Condition
As viewed under UV light, no inpainting or conservation efforts fluoresce. Having early, if not original varnish. Having two negligible pin-point abrasions to the extreme top edge. Minor edge wear/cracking to frame. Brightly gilded frame. CP
