AMERICAN SCHOOL (19TH CENTURY) PORTRAIT OF A PEASANT GIRL, oil on canvas, three-quarter length view, subject pausing from field work, smelling a rose, her idle scythe leaning against her hip, no signature located, "Baltimore" merchant's canvas stamp verso. Housed in a period, possibly original, molded giltwood frame with additional composition ornament. Third quarter 19th century. 11 1/4" x 9 3/8" sight, 18" x 16" OA.
Painting in very good condition, slightly dirty, with minor craquelure. Frame with wear and losses, possibly repainted.
Provenance: Property from the estate of Mary Collins Jones, Gordonsville, VA.
