Provenance: The estate collection of Alan R. Shirkey, Harrisonburg, VA.
Catalogue Note: Etna Furnace is known to have used slave labor in the production of iron. Shields L. Somerville is recorded as taking part in slave shipping. It is possible that this note was issued in consideration of slaves being used to work the furnace.
