Description
North America, Mexico, Borderlands region, ca. 19th to early 20th century CE. A unique and massive knife with a slightly curved steel blade and a bone (likely cow or deer) grip riveted to the tang. The tang extends from the tip of the pommel forming a curved tail. The interior curve of the tail has incised lines and a perforation through the end that gives this tail a zoomorphic appearance. Also known as a Belduque, this type of knife was valued by the Plains Indians and was a popular fighting knife in the borderlands region. The knife features a nice patina across the surface and is a handsome, if not intimidating, example! Size: 17" L x 1.625" W (43.2 cm x 4.1 cm)
