[AMERICANA]. A group of several account books and apprentice books from identified users. [Ca mid-19th century].Account book of William and James Bryson (Brison). [Pennsylvania], 1832-1870. Folio, 7 3/4 x 12 1/2 in., 220pp. manuscript ledger (24 pages of preliminary material, 196 pages of accounts), interleaved with small paper scraps with receipts, figuring, etc. (Toned, occasional spotting). Quarter leather bound with printed paper boards ledger (heavy wear to paper, some staining). Provenance: James Brison (bookplate); William Bryson (note reading: "William Bryson's Book. A Native of Ireland arrived in the United States of America November 7th in the year of our Lord One thousand Seven hundred and Eighty three.")[With:] Pair of workbooks of John Eckman. N.p., n.d. Folio, 8 1/4 x 13 1/4 in. Paper-bound ledgers (moderate wear); all books housed in custom cloth clamshell. Completed in manuscript (some loose gatherings). Provenance: John Eckman (ownership documentation on cover). The books seem to be those of an apprentice with several "cases," notes, tables of measurement, and mathematics practice. The back cover of one of the ledger reads: "John Eckman, His Book Steal This Not for Fear of Shame for Above This The Owners Name."
