Description
Mae West's Personally Owned Custom Made Navy Crepe Day Gown W/LOA - This 1930s custom made day gown was personally owned by Mae West. Mae West was an iconic American actress, singer, playwright, screenwriter, comedian and sex symbol, whose career spanned seven decades. At the height in the early 1930s she was one of the largest box office draws in the United States, and by 1935, West was the highest paid woman and the second-highest paid person in the United States. West was also named the 15th greatest female star of classic American cinema by The American Film Institute. This floor length dress is crafted of navy crepe with white trim along the neck, arms and hem (the trim has discolored due to age). This gown comes with a letter of authenticity on Mae West's letterhead from her personal secretary Tim Malachosky attesting to its authenticity. The dress was acquired from a Hollywood memorabilia auction in 1995 and has not been offered to the public since. The lot will include a copy of the previous auction catalog page picturing the piece and retains the original lot tag.
