Description
A red and black lacquer box with the symbol for longevity painted 5 times, 8 bats are painted on it. In Chinese culture, the number 8 is synonymous with wealth, a bat is a symbol for good luck and happiness, the color red symbolizes happiness and joy. Around the bottom of the are 4 pairs of intersecting diamonds, The diamond edges added together are the number 8. Ribbons are used to denote emphasis and importance. Ribbons are seen around the four objects depicted on the top of the box, a ryui or short sword, a flute, a pipe, and a string instrument. Box is uneven on the top and has chipping of the material around the edges. 13 7/8"D x 7 1/4" H. Base is made of wood: 12" D x 10"H.
