Two Nelson Mandela Beautifully Signed Color Photographs
Two signed color photographs, both measuring 5" x 7", no place, December 29, 2009. The first is a close-up portrait of Mandela, dressed in a dark suit and red tie. Behind him is a blue background. Signed "Best wishes, NMandela." The second photograph shows Mandela dressed in a grey checked suit, with a South African flag in the background. Signed "Best wishes, NMandela. 29.12.09." Both are very fine, boldly signed.
Both are fantastic colorful, warm photographs depicting Nelson Mandela, the South African revolutionary, politician, and philanthropist, who served as President of South Africa from 1994 to 1999. Mandela was also South Africa's first black chief executive and the first elected in a fully representative democratic election. Before his presidency, Mandela was a militant anti-apartheid activist, and the leader and co-founder of Umkhonto we Sizwe, the armed wing of the African National Congress (ANC). In 1962, he was arrested and convicted of sabotage and other charges, and sentenced to life in prison. Mandela served 27 years in prison, spending many of these years on Robben Island. Following his release from prison on February 11, 1990, Mandela led his party in the negotiations that led to democracy in 1994. As president, he frequently gave priority to reconciliation, while introducing policies aimed at combating poverty and inequality in South Africa.
