Interesting 8 Piece Archive of Manuscript Documents from Rhode Island and Massachusetts 1774-1879

RHODE ISLAND and MASSACHUSETTS. Archive of eight documents from 18th and 19th century New England. Condition of documents range from Good to near Fine. Please see images for further details.

Comprised of:

1) A handwritten inventory of “The Estate of Charles Burlingame in account with George Burton Administrator”, 3 pp. bifolium, May 30, 1835, Cranston, Rhode Island, 7.5” x 11.75”. Flattened folds with separation, toning, soiling.

2) A handwritten “Acct. of Licenses rec’d since 28 Sept 1824” for the Town of North Providence, 1 p. front and verso, June 6, 1825, N. Providence, Rhode Island, 12” x 7.25”. Flattened folds, wrinkles, uneven edges, tear at top corner, tear at middle, toning.

3) A handwritten “promise to pay Sanford Knight twenty five Dollar on demand with Interest till paid”, 1 p., October 7, 1879, Cranston, Rhode Island, 6.5” x 3.75”. Flattened folds, soiling.

4) A handwritten statement from John B. Hughes requesting release from jail, “I am not guilty”, 1.5 pp. bifolium, September 21, 1835, Providence, Rhode Island, 7.25” x 11.75”. This petition was “Not Granted”. Flattened folds with separation, toning.

5) A handwritten order “Impowering selectmen & oversears of ye Poor” to “Set to work and labour poor and indigent persons that are shiftless and use no trade or ordinary caling for to git a lively whood”, 1 p., Circa 1774, Bristol, Massachusetts, 7.5” x 10.25”. Folds with severe separation, missing top portion, overall wear, adhesive remnants.

6) A handwritten bill for “Isreal G. Manchester to Elihi Fish”, 1 p., November 22, 1826, [Providence, Rhode Island], 8” x 12.25”. Overall wear, flattened folds with slight separation, browning and paper loss at right edge affecting text.

7) A partially printed document signed, “Benjamin Wilbur”, as Justice of the Peace, 1 p. front and verso, January 13, 1817, Providence, Rhode Island, 8” x 6.5”, being an arrest warrant for Andrew Stone. Attached by red wax seal is a handwritten “promise to pay” by Andrew Stone, 1 p., January 7, 1815, Scituate, 7.5” x 4”. Both documents have flattened folds, toning, wear, and uneven edges.

8) A handwritten “Agreement between Weaver on the one part and Edward Carrington on the other part” to “fill up with Earth the Fox Point lot so called, commencing on the west side of Main Street”, 1 p. front and verso, September 2, 1824, Providence, Rhode Island, 7.75” x 9.5”. A manuscript drawing is at middle of front page. Flattened folds, toning, foxing, overall wear.
