Rose Pelswick Archive of Photos (8), Signed Check, & Ink Drawing

A great collection of portrait and candid photographs as well as a signed check and ink drawing related to journalist and film critic, Rose Pelswick [Pelzweig]. Includes the following:

1. Signed Check, New York, dated October 3, 1931. A Chemical Bank & Trust Co., No. 885, signed "Wm DeBeck", made out to Pelswick for the amount of $0.20. With a small cartoon drawing with a speech bubble reading "If she cashes this I'm sunk." Mounted and framed to the overall size of 9.5" x 4.75".
2. Signed Photograph, Paris, dated 1956. Produced by Vallors Studio and signed "Marcel Paynof." A black and white portrait of Paynof inscribed, "á Miss Rose Pelswick with my best compliments."
3. Four Studio Portraits of Pelswick. Two were produced by Bruno of Hollywood, one by Ruth Harriet Louise (MGM Ca. 1927), and one by Ira D. Schwan.
4. Three Candid Photographs of Pelswick. One taken at NBC radio, one working as a journalist, and one Ca. 1937 pictured with Basil Rattaboll.
5. Clipped Ink Drawing Signed. A small drawing of Pelswick smoking, inscribed "Rose Pelswick by W.L. Thomas."

The check has light dampstaining and a few additional areas of soiling. Uneven discoloration to the top of the signed Paynof photograph. Varying degrees of wear, toning, and minor tearing to the photo edges. Toning to the drawing with rough edges. All bold signatures.

Rose Pelswick (1900-1981), born Rose Pelzweig, was born in Slovakia and became a movie critic for the "New York Journal-American" and the "Evening Journal" and hosted several radio movie club programs on WHN and WPAP. Pelswick also wrote a number of stories under the pseudonym F.G. Parke, including "First Night Murder."
