Description
1747 1ed Institutions of Isaac NEWTON Astronomy Physics Gravity Planets Science
“I can calculate the motion of heavenly bodies but not the madness of people.”
― Isaac Newton
Few names throughout history are as synonymous with science as Isaac Newton. Known for his studies in physics, math, and astronomy, Newton was one of the most influential scientists during the scientific revolution. His contributions to optics and physics are still foundational in the scientific process.
French author Pierre Sigorgne published a collection of Newton’s ideas, theories, and discoveries in a 1747 book entitled ‘Institutions of Newton’. In this book, Sigorgne covers Newton’s laws of physics but focuses heavily on astronomy – gravitational attraction, moon’s influence on tides, movement of satellites, equinoxes and eclipses, general observations of planets, and much more.
The DSB says of this book that it is
“the most successful of Sigorgne’s efforts to apply the concept of universal gravitation”
