Description
Estate lot of two late 19th to early 20th Century German porcelain covered boxes. Includes: One antique wood framed white porcelain bread box, with brass hardware and decorated with landscape scenes of Dutch style windmills, cottages, and boats with human figures; marked to underside D R G M GERMANY SCH NO 772381 with impressed beehive mark; a similarly decorated box was produced by Villeroy & Boch, circa 1870. One antique Theodor Paetsch German porcelain covered herring serving dish with lid. White porcelain body with blue transfer decoration in scrolling and floral forms, with archaic style motto Marinirte Heringe ("marinated herrings") to front side. Lid has a prominent central high raised relief sculptural figure of a stylized herring fish. Stamped to underside THEODOR PAETSCH FRANKFURT. Both with antique patina. Measurement is for larger (bread) box.
