Description
Pre-Columbian, Southern Mexico to Guatemala, Olmec, ca. 1200 to 600 BCE. A stunning jade pendant boasting mottled hues of sage and cream with natural emerald, forest green, and red sienna inclusions. Displaying a rectangular form, the beautiful piece has been hand-carved to feature an incised "x" motif with a circle at the center and semicircles in each corner. Soft red cinnabar fills the incised striations, adding a lovely pigment to the design. The top and center feature a drill hole for suspension. Size: 2.625" L x 1.5" W (6.7 cm x 3.8 cm)
Provenance: ex-Saint Petersburg, Florida, USA collection; ex-private Texas, USA collection, acquired prior to 1970
