Description
This lot consists of a fine art print on paper, done in the Pop Art style of Andy Warhol (American, 1928-1987). "Andy Warhol" is inscribed with graphite at bottom. This modern image depicts a woman with ornate headdress and jewelry, her skin awash in vivid magenta and eyelids painted a bright turquoise blue. Unframed measurements approximately 11.5" x 8.25"; image sight approximately 6.5" x 6.5".
Andy Warhol (American, 1928-1987) was a leader of contemporary art, which solidified the way that we now visualize the mid-century American era, its faces, and its mass culture. Warhol was a producer, director, printmaker, and illustrator who hailed from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. From his beginnings in the commercial art world, Warhol held a firm grasp of popular image and advertising power. By the time of his death in 1987, Warhol's name would become synonymous with the Banana Factory, Studio 54, Campbell's Tomato Soup, and, most succinctly, Pop Art.
