Description
This lot consists of a framed oil painting on canvas, done in the rustic landscape style of David Milne (Canadian, 1882-1953). This bold image depicts a lush outdoor scene with rolling hills in the distance and deep burgundy bushes swaying in the front of the scene. Deep jewel tones create a richness and a unique energy. A hand-painted inscription at lower right corner reads "Milne". Overall framed dimensions approximately 18.5" x 22.25".
David Milne (Canadian, 1882-1953) was a painter, printmaker, and writer. The son of Scottish immigrants, Milne was the youngest of ten. He studied art remotely from 1902-1903, and then moved to New York at the age of 21 to make a formal study of art. Milne eventually moved to Boston and would live there for the duration of the 1920s, until his ultimate return to Canada, where he spent his remaining days painting landscape, fantasy, and boldly colored prints.
