2nd-3rd century AD. A gold earring with blue bead in circular ropework setting over rhomboidal bar with ribs and ropework; below, three gold drops comprising three loops, collared round-section shaft and free-running blue oblate glass bead above twisted terminal. See The British Museum, museum number 1917,0601.2672, for broadly similar earring. 2.01 grams, 25mm (1"). Property of a Cambridgeshire gentleman; acquired from a Sussex lady; previously in the private collection of Anthony John Scammell (1937-2019); acquired from Nick McCarthy, Southampton, UK, in 2001.
