Description
This is a mounted albumen photograph of a cowboy and a horse. Pen writing at the bottom identifies the horse as Chapeau, "The pride of the " 70 Outfit." In the bottom left corner is: "Taken at Soda Springs, Idaho, June 21, 1890." The man is not identified. Photo is 6.25 x 8.5" on 8 x 10" mount. Paper residue on reverse. Some stains. Please inspect. We believe this photo is of the Two-Bar 70 (hence the [" 70] in the caption) Ranch that was located along the Snake River near Soda Springs and founded by William E. Hawks in the 19th century. His son, William E. Hawks Jr., later became a large collector of Western historical items, and dubbed himself the "Historian of the Plains."
