Description
Rudy Pozzatti (American, b. 1925). "Homage to Rembrandt" lithograph, ed. 17/50, 1975. Signed, dated, numbered, and titled in pencil below the image. A mesmerizing composition that includes renderings of 13 Rembrandt self portraits, the uppermost featuring the master with his beret, mustache, and goatee in a roundel format that is embellished with gold foil. Some have humorously referred to Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn as the premier 'selfie' artist! Here, Rudy Pozzatti has paid homage to the Dutch master with 13 renderings of his self portraits. Perhaps you will recognize a few if not all of them. My favorite is the wide-eyed visage at the top of the visages on the left side of the composition, modeled after the 1630 self portrait at the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. A very special limited edition lithograph, ideal for any art lover! Size: 25.5" L x 18" W (64.8 cm x 45.7 cm)

According to the Rudy Pozzatti papers at the Indiana University Archives prepared by Megan Berry, "Rudy Pozzatti was on the faculty at Indiana University from 1956-1991 and upon his retirement, received the title of Distinguished Professor Emeritus. Founder of the Echo Press, Prof. Pozzatti is recognized as one of the prominent printmakers in the country and has works exhibited throughout the world. . . Rudy Pozzatti was born in Telluride, Colorado in 1925. After high school he spent three years in military service, and by 1950 received his BFA and MFA from the University of Colorado. Pozzatti taught at the University of Nebraska and received a Fulbright Award in 1952, and a Guggenheim fellowship in 1953 before coming to Indiana University as an assistant professor of drawing & painting in 1956. Committed to developing creative arts on campus, Pozzatti was named a distinguished professor in 1972. He was invited to be the artist in residence several times including time spent at the Roswell Museum & Art Center in New Mexico. He has won more than 50 awards for his work and is recognized as one of the country's leading printmakers. Pozzatti's work is displayed in several permanent collections around the world including the White House. In 1979, Pozzatti helped to found Echo Press in Bloomington, a well respected printmaking workshop which provided IU students and local artists with valuable experience. Professor Pozzatti retired from teaching in 1991 as Distinguished Professor Emeritus and continued to serve as Director of the Echo Press until its close in 1994."
