Description
Reuben Nakian, American, 1897-1986. A 20th century Bronze figurative abstract sculpture entitled "Voyage to Crete". Original two color Brown/Green patina. Cast signature "Nakian" on sculpture verso, with "Nakian, 10-31@'82-'91, 9/9" and the Tallix Foundry "TX" monogram on an incorporated plaque. Slight surface wear and discoloration to patina, stand with fading and minor damage. Sculpture measures 41 x 18 x 36" high, displayed on custom Cherrywood pedestal with inset Black Marble top which measures 28 1/2 x 38 1/2 x 20" high, 56" high overall. ESTIMATE $8,000-12,000 ex collection: Dr. & Mrs. Saaed Farhat, Ann Arbor, Michigan purchased through The Belian Art Center, Troy, Michigan in 1991. This lot includes the purchase agreement with Belian Art Center, a letter to the Farhat's from Paul S. Nakian (the son of the artist) discussing the sculpture and the commission dated May, 21, 1991, as well as a copy of the 1998 Exhibition catalog "Rueben Nakian" from Fundacao Calouste Gulbemkian Centro De Arte Moderna, Lisbon, and a Belian Gallery Nakian Show booklet.
Condition
Slight surface wear and discoloration to patina, stand with fading and minor damage.
