Description
This is a very cool c1925 Richfield Oil Corp cigarette or desk box in plaster with copper overlay. Around 1921, Richfield Oil Corp developed a high octane fuel that was offered to race car drivers for the Indy 500. For several years, this fuel helped drivers place in the top five. In celebration, in 1925, Richfield Oil commissioned a statue from famed artist Finn Haakon Frolich* (1868-1947) which Frolich called "Modern Speed". Richfield continued to use scaled down versions of this statue atop gas pumps and other things, including the box you see here. Measures approx 5" tall x 10" long x 4" wide.
*The last photo is Frolich working on the statue. We do not own this photo.
