Description
This great antique match safe was a complimentary promotional item from the Galena-Signal Co in Franklin PA. Case is a gilt gold over lightly leaf and vine embossed metal. Measures approx 1.5" x 3".
Galena-Signal was originally founded by Charles Miller in 1865 who, in 1870, discovered how valuable the lead-oxide Galena would be and patented the process keeping it suspended in crude oil. Galena lubricant was used primarily by US railroads. In 1931, it was absorbed into Valvoline.

Condition
Very good for age. No dings or damage to the body, appears to close flush as intended with wear to the gold gilding.
