Description
Antique map of "America and New India" (America Sive India Nova) produced by Michael Mercator (c. 1567-1600), Gerard Mercator’s grandson. Hand colored engraved map. Duisburg, 1595 (Amsterdam, 1613 or later). The only printed map known to be engraved by the maker. Produced in an attractive floral design and surrounded by four roundels containing the title, and areas of Spanish influence, the Gulf of Mexico, Cuba and Hispanola. Housed in a gilt wood frame. Work Size: 18 X 22 in.
