Item Details
Description
  • Title: Early 18th Century Chinese Polychrome Teapot
  • Size: 7” (17.8 cm) long x 4” (10.2 cm) wide x 3 ¾” (9.5 cm) tall.

A very finely painted and potted Chinese teapot with a design of family life and children playing. The colored enamels are bright and fresh looking despite its age.

The potted teapot is round with handle and spout. The base glaze is thick and feels very soft. The front and back each have a panel with a design of women and children in a home with furniture and books. These panels are surrounded by gilt scrolling and a landscape scene in a pale pastel pink. Rondels with ruyi fungus designs accentuate the spout and handle. The teapot has a raised unglazed foot with a glazed base.

    MEASUREMENTS

    7” (17.8 cm) long x 4” (10.2 cm) wide x 3 ¾” (9.5 cm) tall. Weighs 12.4 oz (350 g)

    CONDITION

There is a crack on the handle. There is a very thin horizontal hairline showing on the large polychrome but this break doesn’t go through to the inside. Inside though are several vertical hairlines in the same area, but they don’t go through to the front. There is a kiln flaw in the form of a short crack on the inside of the neck. This doesn’t extend through to the outside.
The spout is in good shape with no chips. The lid is missing. There is wear to the gilding, but most of the other enamels show little wear. The faces are all clear. There are other kiln flaws such as black spots, reserve pimples, and bumps on the interior.

A colorful, very old teapot that will be a great addition to a collection or add richness and color to your home.
