Footnotes:
Boucher was nominated to Chevalier de la Légion d'Honneur for this work, first presented in plaster at the Salon of 1886. Highly praised, it was successfully cast by a number of foundries in several sizes, including a life size version for the Salon of 1887, which was later destroyed.
