Description
Attributed to Bontems, France, an early 20th century singing bird cage, the enclosure with domed top and hanging ring containing a yellow bird on a perch, and fixed to a wooden base with canted corners, adorned with floral and foliate gesso ornaments and containing the movement, the bird turning its head and flicking its tail, the motions synchronous with the bird's song
Condition
gesso flaking, some separation at joints, ornaments now painted gold, cage with minor bends, minor verdigris, and tarnish, bird dirty and with losses to feathers, upper portion of beak missing, cage bottom lining very dirty, movement dirty, running, bird motions good, singing very weak, bellows leaking, pause not functioning as it is controlled by the bellows, will work following bellows restoration ACCESSORIES: Winding Key
