Biography: 1901 - 1971. Loló Soldevilla (1901-1971) was a painter, sculptor, draftsman and Cuban engraver. She was one of the most important representatives of abstract geometric art in her country, and is considered a seminal figure in the promotion of Cuban Art, especially Concrete Cuban art (abstraction) with international influence. She strongly rejected nationalist figurative work of the Vanguardistas, which pushed for radical social reforms. She began painting in 1948. In 1949, she moved to the city of Paris, where she studied sculpture at the Grande Chaumière Academy and encountered many avant-garde artistic methods, especially abstraction. In 1950, she returned for one year to Cuba, where the Lyceum of Havana held an exhibition of her work .And in mid-1951, she returned to France where she entered a workshop of the abstract painters Jean Dewasne and Edgar Pillet. Also during that time she studied engraving with Stanley Hayter and Cochet. In 1953, the Arnaud Gallery held a joint exhibition of Loló / Varela.She returned to Cuba in 1956, and she and Pedro de Oraa founded Galeriea Ckolor-Luz, a gallery sole dedicated to the promotion of abstract art. She also exhibited her works at the Palacio de Bellas Artes in Havana. And two years later in France, she exhibited a series of luminous reliefs in the Gallery of Realités Nouvelles.During the course 1960 - 1961, she worked as a professor of plastic arts at the School of Architecture of the University of Havana. And in 1964 she founded the group of painters Espacio.
