A LATE 19TH CENTURY BISCUIT PORCELAIN FIGURE OF MILTON TOGETHER WITH THREE FURTHER FIGURES the figure of Milton holding a scroll reading 'PARADISE LOST AND REGAINED' marked R&L for Robinson & Leadbeater, together with a figure of a Scotsman with a pipe (pipe damaged), and a Parian ware figural group of Paul and Virginie by Copeland after Charles Cumberworth (English, 1812-1852), depicting two lovers on a rock, signed to the reverse 'COPELAND', and a Worcester group of two lovers on a circular base, the underneath with the Worcester stamp, 30cm, 30cm, 31cm and 32cm high respectively (4) Robinson & Leadbeater were manufacturers of parian and china figures at Stoke. c.1864-1924. Paul et Virginie (or Paul and Virginia) is a novel by Jacques-Henri Bernardin de Saint-Pierre, first published in 1788. The novel's title characters are friends since birth who fall in love and the story is set on the island of Mauritius under French rule.
