Description
**First Time At Auction**

Attributed to George Phillip Rugendas (German, b. 1666), ca. 1710 CE. A lovely etching by George Phillip Rugendas, a German artist who was active in the early 18th century and specialized in hunting and battle scenes, parading soldiers, and other action scenes. This composition features two men on horseback. The men wear similar hats and garments (perhaps uniforms) and appear to be engaged in conversation, making hand gestures perhaps to indicate directions. The etching is set in a custom matte and frames under glass. A special example from the early 18th century. Beyond the men are additional figures on horseback, a tall stone wall and vernacular architecture. Size of image: 5.375" W x 4.375" H (13.7 cm x 11.1 cm) Size of frame: 10.125" W x 9.25" H (25.7 cm x 23.5 cm)

In the lower center of the print is: "C. Priv. S.C. Maj." which is the privilege statement: "Cum Privilegio Sacrae Caesareae Majestatis" or with the privilege of the Holy Imperial Majesty, and "G. Wolff excud." (printed by G. Wolff) is at the lower left corner.

Provenance: private Los Angeles County, California, USA collection
