**First Time At Auction**

Latin America, Mexico, ca. early to mid-20th century. A wonderful carved wood festival mask depicting a male visage hand-painted in brilliant hues, with hot pink skin and glimmering golden facial hair. The vivid visage displays almond-shaped eyes of sky blue delineated by black paint, thick, swirling brows, an enormous, curved nose, full, rose red lips flanked by a giant moustache with curled tips, and a petite chin beard. Lovely strokes of scarlet pigment outline the vizard's expression wrinkles, adding detail to the piece. The fascinating face additionally exhibits a pair of eye holes through which the wearer was able to see and perforations around the peripheries that were either for attachment of ornaments, attachment to a costume, or securing to the wearer's head.
