Ancient Northern/Western Africa, Mauritania, Mesolithic Period, ca. 15,000 to 5,000 BCE. A hand-knapped chert hand axe of pink-grey hues. The ovoid tool has convex crests on both faces as well as a uniformly sharpened peripheral edge. The Mesolithic period experienced dramatic advances of blade technology in North Africa that spread along the coastal regions. Lucite display stand for photography purposes only. Size: 4.875" L x 2.8" W (12.4 cm x 7.1 cm).
