Item Details
Description
Southeast Asia, Vietnam, Anamese (sometimes Annamese), ca. 16th century CE. A lovely stoneware lime-pot comprised of a spherical body and ring-form base, all topped by a thick vine-like handle. The body of the gorgeous vessel is enveloped in a creamy beige glaze, while the handle boasts hues of forest green and celadon. Note the beautiful detail given to the handle with spiraling tendrils and bulging flower buds that meander on to the side of the vessel. Lime-pots like these examples were used to keep powdered lime, which was combined with areca nut and betel leaf for chewing. A circular hole on the side of the fine pot would allow one to access the powder with the help of a petite spoon or ladle. Size: 3.75" in diameter x 5" H (9.5 cm x 12.7 cm)
