Signed lower left, showing the French squadron (the frigates Ceres and Fame, the brig Achilles, cutter Sparviere, and several others) in the Bay of Naples before their battle with the HMS Spartan and the other British ships on the morning of May 3, 1810; in a carved frame with paper note on verso, "English Marine Painter / Exhibited Royal Acadamy / 1783-1824"
