The subject, a young man with long brown hair, wearing a cap and clothed in fine red and gold garments, stands looking over his left shoulder and holding a book, with a view of a church, Corinthian columns and marble nude sculpture in the background. Unframed. Stamp en verso for conservator Hiram H. Hoelzer (New York). One stretcher additionally stamped "New York". 43 1/4" H x 33 3/4" W. Note: recent scholarship has raised uncertainty about the identity of the artist (and the subject) of what was once referred to as "Self Portrait of the Artist, 1512, by Domenico Caprioli."
