Description
Theodore Alexander, contemporary. Althorp collection secretary bookcase or bureau cabinet in the George II taste, having a flame mahogany and morado/rosewood veneer banded case, the architectural cornice with brass urn finials and broken arch pediment centered on a gilt crest, the double glazed doors revealing multiple drawers and pigeon holes, the bureau with tooled leather writing surface with Spencer family crest, book rests, fitted interior, multiple drawers, and rising on block feet. Marked to the upper right drawer of the bureau. Note: There are one-hundred drawers on this piece, twenty-six of which are concealed. Approx. overall, h. 98", w. 44.25", d. 26.75".
Condition
Minor wear to interior of front right and left bracket feet; very small dent to interior of right door of slant front below book rest; no apparent breaks or restorations; case is structurally sound.
