Description
A Rare Marquesas Islands Toggle (tiki) c. 1850s Hollow cylindrical bone with the hands on the stomach and the arms semi-detached to the body, broad slit mouth with flattened nose and dark brown eyes in larger raised sockets, ears with two sets of spirals, shoulder blades indicated at back. In very good condition, high points rubbed from extensive use. The piece exudes elemental power and gravitas. Provenance: Private Collection, New York Acquired by the current collection in 1992 Lance Entwistle, London Maurice Joy, London Height: 1 ¾ inches
