Description
A nice example of a Soviet diving helmet in what is called the 3 bolt bolt pattern. This helmet was made at Factory 28 located in Leningrad in 1990 as indicated by the brass ID plate. The three bolt style was favored among the Soviet Navy and was the primary diving helmet model.
As shown in the photos, the helmet has a wonderful patina to the copper body and brass hardware. All the correct hardware is present, including the window frames, glass, faceplate, three bolt nuts and top handle. The copper body is in good condition. The back of the breastplate directly below the neck ring has 3 deep scratches, two of which penetrate the copper. The helmet was on a display stand, which caused this damage. The bonnet and breastplate fit together with ease. The large rubber neck ring gasket is present. Single air vent inside bonnet not present.
Helmets made in Russia are gaining in popularity every year. DESCO even makes a unique neck dam, allowing use of the helmet without a large bulky suit. Russian 3 bolt helmets represent an excellent value, are a historical piece of diving history and Cold War equipment!
