Pair 1920's era French cloth dolls "Calvaire". 13 1/2" - 14" cloth mask face dolls with elaborately styled raffia hair, large bulbous side-glancing glass googly eyes, on disproportionately thin cloth bodies, stitch-jointed legs, small hands with individual fingers. The boy appears to be a matador costumed in silk with metallic threading. He retains his "Calvaire" label on the inside of his jacket. The girl is costumed in silk with black netting. Her label is sewn onto her slip. Both dolls have some shredding to their clothing, although it appears that the shredding to the matador costume may be, in part, intentional. Both have tears to their stockings, the girl's shoes are missing.
