Classic example of the traditional Korean or Japanese diving helmet. This is a 3 light (3 windows) 12 bolt (12 breastplate studs) model helmet. Made with a copper body and brass hardware, this style of helmet has been used for much of the 20th Century by divers.

This example does retain the original brass ID plate. Unfortunately, we are unable to identify who the manufacturer is. It does resemble other ID plates from companies in South Korea made during the second half of the 20th Century.

There is no doubt this helmet has been on a lot of jobs! Typical working dents are prevalent on the top of the bonnet. Numerous old repairs to the copper body of the bonnet and air fitting can be detected as well. The inside of the bonnet is missing the air ducts, removed long ago. The faceplate is missing the two brass knobs. Two wing nuts are missing from the breastplate. The front center breastplate stud has been replaced with a longer one. The stud has a wing nut on one side and duct tape on the inside to prevent it from coming off. Glass is all intact. Bonnet and breastplate thread together as they should.

All diving helmets in this auction will be accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from Nations Attic. The certificate will have a unique number that will match the number on a tamperproof hologram decal placed inside the helmet. This information will be kept on permanent file at Nations Attic and help ensure the provenance of the helmet and authenticity. The display stand shown in the photos is not included. The option to purchase one after the auction will be provided.
